Inspiring films to get us to take action - COP26

COP26 has drawn to a close in Glasgow this weekend. There has certainly been a lot of events, policies, announcements, speeches, videos and communications. As a built environment marketing consultant, I thought I’d shine a bit of a marketing lens on some of the communications and talks that have captured my attention. This is by no means everything just a few of the things that have stood out to me so do let me know if there’s something that has captured your attention and why.

COP26 Virtual Pavillion

Make’s installation as part of the COP26 virtual pavillion is worth a watch. It is sculatpure, animation and thought piece designed to show what a circular economy might look like. It is all designed to make us Build Better Now. Do check out the installation and the virtual pavilion itself to explore installations that showcasing best practice projects that show how to solve issues around the climate crisis covering topics such as retrofit, the circular economy and materials.

What are you going to do about it? A film by the IstructE

This film by the IstructE featuring Will Arnold, Chris Wise and Niamh McCloskey. The short film is designed to inspire engineers to take action and get involved in helping to solve the climate emergency. The comparison of stats about what we do as individuals and the fact that the built environment contributes 40% of all carbon and that through reuse is where we can really make a difference. A compelling piece of storytelling that is sure to resonate.

Warnings to Action: Mobilising Humanity

This film is from Scientists Warning Europe who want to be listened to about the warnings that they are giving on climate change before it’s too late. These people really know the science and the numbers and want to get the message out. THey understand the sheer horror that we face if we don’t keep the climate rise below 1.5C.

Building services engineers Hoare Lea has produced an understated, simple film that quite frankly cuts through the noise of the past few weeks. It says what needs to be said and even more importantly what needs to be done. As a marketer, I know how hard it is to create something so seemingly simple but still be able to convey the message that you need to get across. Hats off.

How will you shape a better future, part of the This Is Engineering campaign

As we look to inspire the next generation of engineers to get enthused and engaged in the jobs of the future - this is a great film to show the range of opportunities that will emerge as part of a low carbon economy.
