Marketing for engineering firms

Promoting technical engineering strategically
What.
I’ve always loved engineering and have spent most of my career marketing engineering firms both large and small.
Engineering is all about solving problems and as the world and built environment in which we operate becomes increasingly complex, the more challenging problems engineers are now being called on to solve. From using less resources, to designing for climate change mitigations and building more in our increasingly congested cities, the role of engineers has become more and more specialised.
My work with engineering firms has developed through collaborative partnerships with companies like AECOM, WSP, Arup, Ramboll, Mace, and Cundall. I have a strong understanding of how engineering practices operate and their specific marketing needs.
As a marketing consultant, I've worked with engineering firms delivering strategic advice, developing marketing strategies and plans, creating marketing campaigns and strategic content including blogs, opinion pieces, and thought leadership.
Who for.
Global engineering consultancies, mid-sized specialist engineering firms, small engineering practices.
Marketing strategy.
I'll work with you to articulate your engineering marketing strategy and create the marketing plan and messaging to get you there. I have undertaken this process for several engineering practices and understand how to create practical plans that you are able to implement yourself.
Marketing services for engineers.
Content creation.
Identifying the themes, topics and messages that you want to convey to your target audience. Then creating content to fit from podcasts, blogs, opinion pieces, infographics, videos and awards submissions that highlight your engineering expertise and innovation.
Speaking & training.
I offer engaging training and workshop sessions in three main ways: masterclasses, 1-2-1 and corporate training tailored to the specific needs of engineering professionals. So if you want to get better at LinkedIn, have a digital marketing deep dive or get your team to understand how to build networks in the built environment please do get in touch.
Engineering marketing case studies
Cundall new website
I worked with Cundall on their website development, which was shortlisted for both the Property Marketing Awards and Archiboo in 2022 for best website. The website effectively communicated their engineering expertise and sustainability focus.

Buro Happold ESG
report editing
Last year I was commissioned to edit the 8000 word ESG impact report for global engineering and consultancy firm Buro Happold.
The job involved editing the copy provided by discipline leads from across the business so that it read cohesively and would make sense to a non-technical audience.

Telling research stories, Arup
During the 1st COVID lockdown in 2020, the lead marketer for Arup’s foresight and innovation team asked me to manage the development of a series of films that would show the impact of Arup’s investments into supporting research. A series of four engaging films were made for Arup.

What people are saying.
“It was a joy working with you Ayo and you did such a brilliant job driving forward this amazing series for us 🌟”
Annabel Elliott-Browning Associate, Arup
“Ayo provided fantastic support in the creation of content for our new website. Development of the style guide and the training given to our marketing team has given us the tools to produce our own copy, enabling us to keep our website fresh and updated."
Helen Solimena, Cundall.
Podcast episodes featuring engineering firms
My podcast The Built Environment Marketing Show often sees me interviewing leading architecture practices about their marketing. It leads to fascinating questions and learnings for both sides. Engineering firm guests have included Arup, WSP, Buro Happold, and Hoare Lea.
