Here are some handy tips on how retailers can focus on making the best customer experience possible within the latest guidelines.
Tip 1 - Make it easy to find and download your app
Having a QR code poster to download your app is great. But also have clear signage in your retail outlet giving the name of the app to download and where you should go to download the app. Make it as easy as possible for customers to find it, make it as easy as possible to buy from you.
Tip 2 -Your website is so important so make sure you’ve nailed the best user experience
It’s fine to not have menus in restaurants and to move to online menus on your website. It makes sense and also that you have a QR code to get there.
Make sure the menus are accessible from your home page, don’t make me download a PDF, I can’t be the only one who never finds downloads on my phone or sometimes they just don’t download at all.
Make sure your website is mobile responsive – A PDF of your normal menu that isn’t optimised makes it really hard to read, navigate and therefore order. Your customers will be in your restaurant so on their mobiles. Make it easy for them.
Even better don’t bother with a PDF – have a page for your menu on your website so it’s scrollable – no pesky downloading required. Make it easy for me to see your menu and to order from you.
Tip 3 - Try to build consistency across your local business community
Businesses have had to find their own way and protocols when it comes to reopening. I know it's not been easy. Continuing on the theme of consistency and making it easier for customers, why don’t local businesses join forces and work together to implement similar processes and procedures? Having to navigate many different processes and procedures when you enter neighbouring stores is baffling, tiring and honestly makes potential customers almost want to give up.
Good luck to all the retailers starting to reopen today. Try to focus on improving the customer experience and making it as seamless as possible to get more of us to start venturing out consistently. Implementing some of the above will help.
